Absolute Welfare Organization’s Menstrual Hygiene Education Initiative for Young Girls in Rural Areas of Douala, Cameroon

On the 24th of October 2022, the Absolute Welfare Organization conducted an educational initiative aimed at informing and empowering young girls in rural areas of Douala, Cameroon. The project focused on educating the girls about menstruation and menstrual hygiene, addressing a critical aspect of their development and well-being. By providing accurate information, essential hygiene products, and a supportive environment, the initiative aimed to break the stigma surrounding menstruation and enable these young girls to manage their menstrual health confidently and hygienically.

Project Objectives

1. Health Education: To educate young girls about the biological process of menstruation and its implications for their health and well-being.
2. Hygiene Promotion: To promote proper menstrual hygiene practices, addressing the importance of using hygienic products and maintaining cleanliness during menstruation.
3. Empowerment and Dignity: To empower the girls by fostering an open and supportive dialogue about menstruation, aiming to reduce stigma and promote dignity and self-confidence.

Workshop Sessions

– Conducted interactive workshops to provide comprehensive information on menstrual health, covering topics such as the menstrual cycle, hygiene practices, and emotional well-being.

Hygiene Kit Distribution

– Provided hygiene kits containing sanitary pads, hygiene wipes, and informative materials about menstrual health and hygiene best practices.

Open Dialogue and Support

– Facilitated open discussions to create a supportive atmosphere, encouraging the girls to share their experiences and ask questions without fear or hesitation.
